Many walkers on the Te Araroa Trail or The Long Pathway choose to start their walk at the northern tip of New Zealand at Cape Reinga, then steadily walk the 3,000 km or 1900 miles to Bluff at the south end of the South Island. 

The view from Cape Reinga is the start of the journey and the first section includes 90 Mile Beach.

The drive is about 2 hours and 20 minutes, the ferry ride is about 2 hours. See the stunning rock formations on the beach at Cathedral Cove, take the Pinnacles Walk in Coromandel Forest Park or soak in hot springs. Hahei Beach is the start of the walk to Cathedral Cove.

The Coromandel Coastal Walkway at the northern tip of the peninsula offers spectacular scenery from cliffside paths over glistening bays and beaches, along its 20 km trail. Begin or end at Stony Bay or Fletcher Bay and take the loop track.

It was a lovely stay.'

'This was hospitality at its best. Very comfortable and everything we needed. The breakfast provisions were quality - fresh milk, homemade muesli and mostly locally sourced products. The kitchen utensils and crockery etc left nothing wanting...it was so peaceful, all we heard was the local wildlife, birds chirping.'

'Great accommodation as a base for Bay of Islands exploring. Kids loved the huge lawn and trampoline. Very thoughtfully set up for guests, beautifully presented and sparkling clean. Would have loved to stay longer.'

The kitchen is well equipped and there was lots of room for all of us to be helping in meal preparation. The living room and outdoor space are great for hanging out.'

- Get to Waiheke Island on the ferry. Ferries depart from 'Downtown Ferry Terminal' located on Quay Street, Auckland, from piers 1-14. The trip takes about 35 minutes. This small island is famous for gourmet cafes and restaurants, vineyards and beautiful beaches. Dotted with small coastal villages Waiheke is 20 km long and home to many artists, find their works in the community gallery at Oneroa. It is easy to get around by buses, which leave regularly from the ferry terminal. Get an all-day bus pass to see the vineyards, villages and beaches. Or find your fairytale cottage and stay a few days or a week on this relaxing island.

' This was sooo fun. Highly recommended it. We got to see a lot of dolphins and a whale.
