Seven Stories at the Tuscan Cottage Café combines contemporary romantic comedy with magical realism. It is escapism with quirkiness; armchair travel at its best.
A winemaker in Provence dreams of opening her own organic vineyard. An LA lawyer yearns for release from her workload and imminent divorce. An architect from New York State faces the end of her relationship and a career shake up. A California yoga instructor suddenly needs to learn how to cook. A consultant in Chicago who wants to recapture the spontaneousness of her youth. A Nebraskan accountant dreams of love and romance. A single mother in London yearns to study art in Europe.
One by one, in seven different cities, seven women make a spontaneous decision to travel to Italy. But dreams don’t always run smoothly. While each woman is determined to leave the cage of her old life behind, travel allows each one to leave her comfort zone, confront questions, follow her intuition and experience a touch of fairytale magic.
Katia Luz - having travelled since a young age, my
experiences formed into a set of enchanting stories that celebrate the
serendipity of travel and the magic that appears when we follow our
hearts. My creativity is inspired by the cottage and forest where I live
and the whimsical cottages I have found on my journeys. I am based in Noosa, Australia, where I write, design and publish two
travel websites. After writing non-fiction for more than 15 years,
I just had to tell stories embracing travel and fascinating women, each on an unexpected journey.
"Quirky, intelligent women's fiction."
"Enjoyable reading. Taking the reader on an interesting country journey and well described. I felt like it was time to travel back to Italy to enjoy some of the places in the book. For example, Arezzo, this is one place I would like to experience, as it has some wonderful history and scenery.”
“Prepare to join seven women of different ages, backgrounds, and countries wanting something different, something… more, as each embarks on a journey of discovery to Italy where the faded Café Serendipity and its mysterious owner begin to weave a spell.”
“I enjoyed each character’s story unfolding, also the descriptions of the land, people, architecture, wine, etc. It drives me nuts having to wait for a next chapter to carry on with each person’s story though. I’m so tempted to skip. LOL. A really good read.”
“This is a book that reminds you that second chances exist and that a trip to Italy can change the course of your life. You might be having a coffee at a coffee shop not knowing you are sharing with other people there, the same motivations, courage and calling for a change in life and the pursuit of meaning.”
“I enjoyed the love for cars, for travel, your understanding of female characters, your level of details that made me see, smell and taste the places you took us. I enjoyed every stage, each woman’s character and the places. I could clearly see each of them in their own environment.”
“This novel follows seven women on their journeys of self-discovery while travelling in Italy. Through their adventures you experience the gifts of the feminine – strength, generosity, kindness and vulnerability. I love the bit of magic thrown in too. It’s an enjoyable, feel-good read that’s perfect for a summer beach read or cosy winter weekend.”
“I thought the characters were wonderfully developed. They were all different and yet I saw a bit of myself in each of them and could relate to all of them. I loved that this book showed the best of the feminine.”
“A great
read. A taste of life in Italy and an insight into how Italy can change one's
life so easily. A diverse group of women embark on a soul-searching adventure
in Italy. Against the backdrop of the country's rich cultural tapestry, each
woman discovers hope, healing, and unexpected connections that lead to profound
personal renewal. With themes of friendship, resilience, and the rejuvenating
power of Italy's landscapes. I liked the uplifting theme of self-discovery set
amidst the timeless beauty of Italy.”
Ali arrives in Florence from New York with no job and broken heart. Her sketches of historic architecture and her longing to understand the forms around her gradually heal her malaise, but it is not until she reaches a small unnamed hamlet, that her life's purpose becomes clear.
Grace arrives at the Tenuta del Cuore in Tuscany, filled with emotions about learning to cook. Why?
As Sally arrives at the Villa dei Fiori for a month-long Italian language course in the hills of Tuscany, she is surprised to find a grand but eerily empty villa and no apparent explanation...
As Luisa arrives at Lago Como, she has a frivolous plan to find a darling classic Fiat 500 and drive off into the sunset. She wears sunglasses to protect her from the glare of hundreds of polished Italian cars at the Concorso d'Eleganza held on the shores of the lake in the elegant grounds of the Villa d'Este. As she bribes a waiter for inside information, we can't help but be intrigued to learn how this will unfold...
After a violent robbery in Catania, Luisa finds herself rescued by the local US Naval Commander, a handsome friend-of-a-friend from California. This irritates her no end, and she reluctantly agrees to rest in an out-of-the-way hotel by the sea in the historic quarter of Syracuse. As he visits her in Ortigia, and they spend time in the romantic piazzas and cobbled streets, her resolve begins to soften...
