The cabin is reached by a dirt track through tall karri forest, the trees standing straight and welcoming as you drive beneath them. The moment you arrive there’s a glorious calm, with forest rising behind the cabin and open farmland stretching out in front. Inside, the rustic touches make the place sing, original timber doors, an old wood burner, and one gentle room that holds the kitchen, sitting area and lounge.

I enjoyed the comfortable deck and watched moonlight spill across the fields; spent early mornings bird‑watching from the front porch and wandering the forest; fetched firewood from the wobbly shed out the back; and spotted wrens and a western rosella right on the doorstep. It’s simple, historic and full of character, the kind of woodland retreat where you feel quietly held by the landscape from the moment you arrive. The cabin has 2 bedrooms and 3 beds, welcoming 4 guests. 

This location is perfect for visiting the South West forests around Pemberton, just 16 km from the town itself and 18 km from the Gloucester Tree and national park.

Serenity Cottage – Pemberton – Western Australia

Relax at OM Day Spa

After days of exploring, I visited OM Day Spa, tucked quietly in the forest near Yallingup. The moment I stepped inside, the world seemed to soften. Light filtered through the trees, the air felt cool and still, and everything encouraged you to slow down.

I received a one and a half hour remedial massage and it was bliss. The kind of treatment where you feel tension dissolve almost immediately, where the therapist’s care and skill make you realise just how much your body needed the pause. By the time it ended, I felt restored, unhurried and entirely present in the moment.

OM Day Spa offers more than relaxation. It provides a sense of being looked after, of stepping briefly into a quieter rhythm shaped by forest, calm and thoughtful attention. 

Enjoy Coastal Charm at Ilma Beach House

The South West is renowned for its beautiful coastline, and Ilma Beach House captures the relaxed beachside atmosphere that makes the region so special. When we visited for breakfast, we sat on the deck right on the dunes overlooking the beach, the sea glittering in the early light and the air carrying that faint salt tang that makes you breathe a little deeper.

The morning unfolded with a calm, unhurried rhythm. The service was attentive in the best possible way, thoughtful without being intrusive, and the food arrived with a quiet confidence that matched the setting. Fresh local produce, good coffee and the sound of waves just beyond the scrub created a sense of ease that felt entirely of the South West.

More than just a place to eat, it was a moment of stillness by the sea, where good company, good food, gentle atmosphere and genuine care came together beautifully.
